Robert Ripley

May 07, 2019

Belfast — Robert W. Ripley passed away May 4, 2019, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was a fighter and never gave up. Robert lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered as a “wheeler and dealer” — he was always looking for a good deal. Over the years Robert worked for State Sand & Gravel and the city of Belfast, and at home he did auto body work and painting. Most recently he was the “public relations” man for his son-in-law’s store, Belfast Variety Route 52.

Over the years, he met and made all kinds of friends. He was Robert to some, but to others he was fondly know as “Rip,” “Ripper,” “Bob” or “Bobby.” He was an amazing husband, Dad and Papa, and family meant the world to him.

He loved his time spent with family in the outdoors at the camp on Lake Quantabacook or in the Moosehead Region. He loved hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, racing and anything that involved being around friends and family.

Robert was born in Camden, the son of Guy A. Ripley Sr. and Myrtle (Sutherland) Ripley.

He is predeceased by his parents; one sister, Clara; and three brothers, Loring, Guy Jr. and Johnny.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Pam of 42 years; his daughter, Bobbie Jo Benjamin, her husband Joseph and their children, Colby, Kaleb and Kerenza; one brother, Tony Ripley of Florida; five sisters, Polly Bonin and her husband Tommy of Northport, Selma Bonin and her husband Buster of Northport, Betty Amborn and her husband Charlie of Lincolnville, Sylvia Frankowski and her husband Jim of Warren, and Ida Hilliker and her husband Gene of New York; and many special brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be Friday, May 10, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m.

Following the service, friends and family are encouraged to gather at the Waldo County Shrine Club to celebrate his life. Memories and condolence may be shared at ripostafh.com.
