Rockland Kiwanis Club Meeting Minutes for June 16, 2014

President Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bill Batty, Jr. read a section of a Psalm for our invocation. Guests included Carol Brown, Hayde and Leefe Temple, Brett Adams from the Human Resource Society, Stephanie from the Knox County Homeless Coalition, and our speaker Audrey Lovering.

Committee Reports
There is a board meeting this Wednesday at 7:30am. We received a thank you letter from one of our scholarship recipients. We also received a letter from the Special Olympics, and President Tarbox circulated the recent letter to the editor about the Children's Museum event. A sign up sheet went around for the two food wagon events this weekend: the Relay for Life Friday night, and the Summer Solstice on Saturday night. The Friday event still needs volunteers. We presented a check for $1413.00, the proceeds from the Cupcake Challenge, to the Knox County Homeless Coalition for use at Hospitality House. The Augusta, Pittsfield, Waldo County, and Rockland Kiwanis Clubs were represented at Lanton Lee's training last week. It was a very successful training event. The next Kiwanis training will be in Warwick RI.

Recognition of Members
Lt. Governor Jackie Harjula installed Carol Brown as a new member, and reminded us of the Six Objects of Kiwanis.
Birthdays: Tom Luttrell
Chris Oliver and Greg Hamlin celebrate anniversaries of service to the club.
Secret Greeter: Broo Temple caught Jim Heavey.
Broo Temple didn't have his badge.
50/50: Gary Monroe won, but no Joker. Bill Batty, Jr. won second place, donated the lottery tickets to Broo Temple's daughters, and they won $10. Russ Cloutier won the attendance contest.

Gary Monroe was happy to turn in a Grand Raffle (GR) ticket, and happy to win the 50/50. John Batty was happy for a trip to the UK, happy to sell his building on Merrill Dr., sad that there was still much Kiwanis stuff there to move, and happy grandson Benjamin visited for a week. Jim Heavey was happy for our guests. Gordon Page was happy for the Summer Solstice event, and happy for a GR ticket. Jackie Harjula was happy for the Lanton Lee training, happy for a group of Finnish dancers, and happy for our new member. Carol Brown was happy to be a new member. Sumner Kinney was happy for our new member, happy for 4 GR tix, and happy for Jackie Harjula. Broo Temple was sad he burned himself on a waffle iron. Katie Tarbox was happy for the club training, and happy for our new member.

Speaker: Audrey Lovering is the director of the Many Flags/One Campus project. She gave us an update on their progress.
