Rockland Kiwanis Meeting Minutes for January 6, 2014

President Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bill Batty, Jr. offered our invocation. Guests included Jerry Zwick, Leefie Temple, and Marcy Wass's brother Tom.

Committee Reports
The District Governor will be visiting with us on 1/20 for our noontime meeting, and then his official visit will be that evening at 6pm at the Black Bear in Orono. The fundraising dinner for Aktion Club/Special Olympics will be at Cappy's Chowder House on 1/29 for “Community Connections.” A portion of that nights earnings will be given to those groups. We received a thank-you letter from Broadreach for our donation. Meals On Wheels: John Batty and Sumner Kinney will deliver tomorrow, and 1/14 will be Doc Lombardi and a friend. The Aktion Club is meeting this Wednesday. They are planning a dance on 1/17. There is a RIF distribution at 9am this Wednesday at Head Start. Sandy Millar will help out. There is a cruise to Bermuda from 5/16-5/23. See Lt. Governor Jackie Harjula FMI.

Greg Hamlin was happy for family visiting. John Batty was sad he had to rearrange his vacation, happy for his grandson visiting, sad he had to cancel his trip to Indiana, happy to win the 50/50, and happy to donate the rest of his 50/50 winnings to the ELIMIATE project. Jim Heavey was happy for Notre Dame. Sumner Kinney was happy for MOW with John Batty, and happy for Jerry Zwick. Broo Temple was happy to have his daughter here, and happy she was sad she had to miss school today. Jackie Harjula was happy for New Year's Eve, happy for Jerry Zwick, and happy for the Midcoast Community Band concert. Marcy Wass was happy for her brother visiting, and happy for Keith Wass's birthday. Keith Wass was happy for his birthday, and happy for Marcy throwing him a party. Lynn Archer was happy for the chili chowder challenge, happy for our evening meeting, and sad her employee Lexi was leaving for maternity leave. Dan Saucier invited everyone to the Coastal Community Chorus concert this Sunday. Marcia Whitten was happy Chris Oliver won the chowder cook-off. Katie Tarbox was happy for our guests, happy the hens were able to make it outside, happy for the membership committee, and happy to send New Year's cards to members. Gordon Page was sad his cell phone rang. Bill Batty, Jr. was happy for Gordon Page taking minutes the last two weeks, and happy for Jane Dagley saving him stamps.

Speaker: Gordon Page presented the club's New Member Orientation for new members, and as a refresher for old members.
