Rolling list of postponements, cancellations

The Maine Judicial Branch is reducing operations in courthouses throughout the state. Courthouses will remain open to ensure access for those who request protection from personal violence and whose liberty interests are at stake, while ensuring that the courts are sufficiently staffed to respond to those matters. Belfast Farmers' Market has moved outside at Waterfall Arts at 256 High Street on Fridays.

United Farmers Market of Maine in Belfast is closed, but some vendors might set up in parking areas outside on Saturdays.

All restaurants and bars in the state are closed through March 31 for sit-down service by executive order from Gov. Mills, but may offer takeout and delivery service.

Veterans are urged to call before visiting their VA facility.

Access to all Maine Department of Marine Resources facilities in Augusta, West Boothbay Harbor, Bangor, Lamoine, Jonesboro, and Rockland is by appointment only. Contact information for DMR staff can be found at maine.gov/dmr/about/employees.html.

Schools are closed in Regional School Units 3, 20 and 71, and in Northport and Islesboro. In RSU 20, schools are closed through March 27. In RSUs 3 and 71, schools are closed through April 24, reopening April 27. Islesboro Central School is closed through April 24, at which time administrators will reassess the situation. Arrangements have been made to deliver meals to school children.

The Game Loft is closed through March 29 for regular programming but is providing free grab-and-go lunches to any child from noon to 2 p.m., seven days a week, at the 78A Main St., Belfast, location. Children do not need to be Game Loft members to receive meals. For more information, call 322-3229.

The nine local health organizations within MaineHealth, including Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast and Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, are suspending elective medical procedures and postponing non-urgent office visits to their practices. In addition, the hospitals have imposed strict limitations on visitors, generally restricted to one visitor per patient, with health screening required.

All Social Security offices are closed. For assistance, the Social Security Administration directs people to ssa.gov/coronavirus, its secure website, and local offices will continue to provide critical services over the phone.

All Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices are closed to the public until further notice, and all of the bureau's Mobile Unit visits are suspended until further notice. Residents can register vehicles online.

Access to all Waldo County government offices is limited to essential services only. Anyone who needs immediate assistance is asked to contact the county office in question via telephone.

The city of Belfast has closed all of its facilities to the public until Tuesday, March 31. City employees will still work and be available to the public by phone. Emergency services and Public Works will continue operating, but those facilities will not be open to the public. City Council meetings are suspended until March 31. The transfer station will accept trash but not recycling. All interest accrued on sewer or tax payments will be deferred without penalty from March 18 to March 31.

Unity Area Regional Recycling Center is closed until March 31. Should UARRC decide to extend the closure, it will be posted on the center's Facebook page and at town offices.

Bangor Savings Bank and Camden National Bank are offering drive-up only service at their banking locations, with in-person visits by appointment only. For locations without a drive-up window, Camden National Bank will be limiting the number of customers inside at any given time. KSW Federal Credit Union is offering drive-thru service only.

The Waldo County YMCA is closed until March 29.

Liberty, Montville, Unity and Waldo have all postponed their March 28 town meetings, but the Unity election for selectman is still on for March 27.

Swanville town meeting, originally scheduled for March 14, is postponed to Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m., in the lower level of the Town Office.

Carver Library in Searsport has suspended all group activities and closed the library, at least through March. The director hopes to reschedule the Feminine Wisdom and Going to Sea events at some point. Ongoing events like Paws to Read, Crafternoon, and Storytime will resume once group gathering restrictions are lifted.

Belfast Free Library is closed. However, staff will still be at the library to answer the phone and email. A staff member will answer the library’s phone Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at extension 10, and its usual online services are available. Due dates for all checked-out library materials have been extended to April 15; no late fines will accrue.

Islesboro's Town Office is closed with the recommendation that people seek license and registration renewals online, and the Alice L. Pendleton Library also is closed until further notice. All computer classes at the library are canceled until further notice. Budget workshops are postponed indefinitely. At the transfer station, operations are limited to trash, recycling and contractor demo only (no returnables, light bulbs, etc.); no building entry, no sales,  and swap shop is closed.

Liberty Town Office is closed to public traffic. The office will be staffed, but the door to the inside office will be locked. To register a vehicle or to pay with cash, residents are asked to slide paperwork and payments through the mail slot. For all other transactions, town officials suggest using the online link from the town website

Montville Town Office is closed to in-person transactions until further notice. Please call 342-5544 if you need something and the clerk/treasurer will get back to you to make arrangements to take care of your needs.

Palermo Town Office is closed indefinitely to foot traffic. The staff will be on duty to take phone calls and emails during regular business hours. Call 993-2296 if you need further information or have any questions. The office can take vehicle, ATV/boat and snowmobile registrations over the phone or by email and they will mail the registration to you or register online at www1.maine.gov/online/bmv/rapid-renewal/.

Freedom Town Office is closed until further notice for all walk-in business. The town clerk and treasurer will be working at the office and will be available over the phone and by email. Aside from new vehicle registrations, most needs can be met by phone and by email. Please visit www.freedomme.org or call 382-6177 for further information.

Knox Town Office is closed until further notice. If you have any questions call your selectmen: Galen Larrabee – 465-6579 or 568-3538, Bruce Grass – 382-8130, William Ingraham – 382-3121 or the town clerk Loni Spaulding at 568-3312.

Stockton Springs Town Office is closed until March 31. Town officials suggest residents use a link on the town website (www1. maine.gov/online/bmv/ rapid-renewal/) to register vehicles without having to come into the office.

Waldo Town Office is closed until further notice.

Winterport Town Office is closed to the public for walk-in customers until at least Monday, March 30. Closure of other public buildings and suspension of other programs may extend beyond March 30, as well. Town officials encourage residents to keep checking the town's website and Facebook for updates.

Thorndike Town Office is closed to public traffic as of 8 a.m., March 19, until further notice.

Searsport Town Office along with all public buildings, is closed to foot traffic until further notice. Town officials suggest checking the town website for online transactions available.

The University of Maine Hutchinson Center has postponed all events for groups through April 5. This measure includes conferences, events, meetings, professional development programs and live classes. Hutchinson Center remains open for students who need access to WiFi.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension has canceled indoor events involving more than 20 attendees through April 6.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust community events, programs and group volunteer work parties are cancelled through April 15. All preserves and trails will remain open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. The office will be closed, but staff members can be reached by email.

AARP Foundation has suspended its free tax service until further notice at Waldo County YMCA in Belfast, Carver Library in Searsport, and Stockton Springs Community Library. The volunteer tax preparers regret that there are no plans to reopen this year, so all tax appointments are cancelled.

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce will reschedule its annual Business & Community Expo, originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, at the Samoset Resort.

Bishop Robert P. Deeley has temporarily suspended all daily and Sunday Masses in Maine and issued a dispensation for Roman Catholics from the obligation to attend Mass.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Belfast has canceled all worship services in the church until further notice, and instead will stream services live via Zoom at 9:25 a.m. each week. For instructions for downloading and logging on, see St. Margaret’s Facebook page or stmargaretsbelfast.org. Wednesday healing services are temporarily canceled.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast has canceled Sunday services for the time being and is working to provide virtual services. See the church's Facebook page and uubelfast.com for updates. Lane Fisher's ordination, scheduled for March 29, has been postponed. Choir Fest scheduled for April 5 has been canceled.
