Thorndike — A new state-of-the-art lighting console is in the works and perhaps will be an early Christmas gift for the Clifford Performing Arts Center (CPAC) at Mount View High School.

Future RSU 3, an organization that raises funds to support facility and program enhancements at the complex, presented the school with $7,678 to purchase the lighting console and repair color lighting panels.

In a press release, the school and its students extended "heartfelt thanks to Future RSU 3 for their "generous award."

"This makes it possible for us to offer a 300-seat theater venue that has state-of-the-art stage lighting capabilities for student performances, as well as professional music, drama, dance, and educational productions," the school said in the press release.

Future RSU 3 has been the driving force behind funding that built the CPAC and outfitted it with stage lighting and audio/visual equipment. "Because of the fundraising efforts of its members, donations from citizens, corporate gifts from MBNA and Unitel, among others, Future RSU 3 has raised over $565,000 to bring this facility to life," the school said in the release.

The latest award extends Future RSU 3's commitment to students and community. School officials expect the new lighting console and color light panels to be fully operational before the holiday season. The lighting console "comes at at a critical time when we hope to bring a wider variety of cultural offerings to the whole community," the school said.

In an email message to The Republican Journal, Regional School Unit 3 Superintendent Paul Austin said, "The district is grateful for the hard work of Future RSU 3. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful organization that is dedicated to our students, staff and community."
