Searsport — On Saturday, Feb. 15, Penobscot Marine Museum will hold a Sailors’ Valentine workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will make their own Sailors’ Valentine to take home. All materials and tools will be provided. The cost of the workshop is $30. The workshop will be held in the museum’s Old Vestry building, located at 2 Church St.

Sailors’ Valentines are a form of seashell art, popular in the 1800s, when sailors brought them home to their wives, girlfriends, mothers or sisters. Most Sailors’ Valentines were made in the West Indies, on the island of Barbados, between 1830 and 1880, but production continued into the early 20th century.

For more information or to register for the workshop, email or call 548-2529, ext. 213.

The Arts & Entertainment deadline is Thursdays at 5 p.m. for events dated on/between the following two Thursdays. Please email press releases/photos to A&E Editor Christine Dunkle at
