Keene, N.H. — Rica Warren, a junior at Searsport District High School, will take her golf talents to the Granite State.

Warren, a Stockton Springs resident, will participate in the New England high school golf championships on Monday, June 23 at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, N.H.

She qualified for the event by shooting 95 for 18 holes at the schoolgirl championships in October at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.

“I'm proud of her, the school's proud of her and she's done an excellent job,” said Viking golf coach Rudy Carroll. “I don't think anyone from Searsport District High School has done this before, to my knowledge. No one has ever qualified to play at New Englands, boy or girl. So that's quite an accomplishment.”

Warren has played golf for the Vikings three years and plans to return for her senior season.

Twelve girls and 12 boys from each state in New England are scheduled to participate in the event.

“I actually wasn't expected to qualify for it,” said the 17-year-old Warren. “It surprised me. I didn't even know that they had [New England] championships.”

Warren has played at Searsport Pines Golf Course “three times a week” this spring to prepare for the event.
