Town Office

Now is the time to make appointments with Waldo CAP for heating assistance. They can be reached at 338-3025, Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  They are located at Nine Field Street, Belfast.

Property Taxes were due September 30th, and interest started on unpaid balances as of October 1st.  Please call the town office for a pay-off amount if you are mailing a late tax payment to avoid underpaying.

State Absentee Ballot requests are available now through a link either online at or in the Town Office.  Those who wish to vote absentee should complete and submit a request.  Absentee ballots will be mailed to you when they become available (30 - 45 days before the November 8th election).  You may also request absentee ballots by calling the Town Office.  Absentee voting is also available in the Town Office in October, after the ballots have been received.

There will be a special meeting of the Planning Board on Tuesday, October 25th, to work on the Wind Energy Facility Ordinance.  Check the Town website for time and location.


Amanda’s Kitchen Pie and Music Night

Amanda’s Kitchen Pie and Music Night returns with the usual assortment of delicious pie and live music at Fraternity Village General Store.  This season’s community event is on Saturday, October 15th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fraternity Village located in the center of Searsmont.

Live music will be by Rose and the Wayfaring Strangers - providing an enjoyable assortment of country western and other favorites of their many fans.

Admission is free.   This is Fraternity Village’s community get together - a chance to spend an early, fun evening with friends, family and neighbors.  It’s a relaxed family environment, and youngsters are most welcome.

Waldo County 4-H Leaders’ Association Hosting Live Auction

The Waldo County 4-H Leaders' Association is hosting a live auction to benefit the 4-H program here in Waldo County.  The auction will be held at the Belfast Boathouse on Saturday, October 15th, from 2 – 6 p.m., or until everything goes.  All items have been generously donated from local businesses, and all proceeds go directly to the Waldo County 4-H Program.

Fall Dessert Auction

Friends of Cub Scout Pack 35 are hosting an autumn-themed dessert auction on Saturday, October 22nd, at 2 p.m. in the Searsmont Community Center.  The Pack uses the funds raised to develop and supplement activities for the boys in the Tri-Town Area.


Upcoming “Probate Basics” Workshops

Susan W. Longley, Waldo County Judge of Probate, lawyer and long-time teacher, is offering “Probate Basics” workshops in an effort to help people learn about and organize their legal documents, most importantly, medical and financial powers of attorney.

Workshops will be offered at the Liberty Library on Monday, October 17th, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.; at Camden-Rockport High School on Tuesday, October 18th, from 6 – 8 p.m.; at the Belfast Area High School on Tuesday, October 25th, from 6 – 8 p.m. and at the Searsport Library, Wednesday, October 26th, from 3 – 4:30 p.m.


Searsmont Town Library

Legos are at the Library every other Friday from 4 – 5 p.m.  Dates and Lego themes are as follows:  October 21st - Aviation; November 4th and 18th - Trucks; December 2nd and 16th - Space.

Preschool story hour is every Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Searsmont Town Library is looking for local artists who would like to show their work at our town library.  Many different shows have enriched the culture of our town in the past, and we would like that tradition to continue.  So, if you have a quality collection of artwork and would like to show it, please contact Library Art Volunteer, Geri Winslow at 342-5030.
