Searsmont Town Library – Annual Book & Bake Sale – Saturday, July 22nd

The Searsmont Town Library will hold its 28th annual Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, July 22nd, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Searsmont Community Building.  The event, which will be held rain or shine, will also include a “Grandma’s Attic” yard sale and a silent auction.  The noontime closing is a change from previous years.

“This is the Searsmont Library’s once-a-year fund raising event,” said Joyce Sirota, Chair of the Library’s Board of Trustees.  “It generates $7,000 or more in three hours, about a third of the library’s annual budget.  This community celebration is made possible through the cooperation of the Library Board, the Friends of the Searsmont Library, and 40 or more volunteers who give generously of their time and effort to set up, run, and take down the books, baked goods, yard sale treasures, and auction items.”

This year, attendees can choose from thousands of hardcover and paperback books for adults and children at the book sale, and pies, cakes, and cookies at the bake sale.  There will be nearly 1,000 yard sale items ranging from bicycles to bowls to baskets, and more than 100 auction items including building supplies, craft items, jewelry, art, and nearly two dozen gift certificates to local restaurants, salons, and other local businesses.  Funds raised through the Book and Bake Sale allow the library to purchase new books.

Searsmont Town Library has more than 1,200 patrons from Searsmont, Belmont, Appleton, Morrill, Belfast and other communities.  It offers e-books, high-speed computers, Wi-Fi, and programs for students, a reading program for families with small children, adult programs, and exhibits of work by local artists.  “It is a true community resource,” Sirota said. “And the Book and Bake Sale gives hundreds of people the chance to browse hardcovers and paperbacks, eat fantastic baked goods, leave with a good book to read, something for the home or garden, or a wonderful auction item.”

The Searsmont Community Building is at South Main Street (corner of Routes 131 and 173). For more information about the Searsmont Town Library’s 28th Annual Book and Bake Sale, or to offer an item for the silent auction, go to or call the library at 342-5549.
