Town Office

The next and final Demo Debris Day will be held at the Searsmont Transfer Station on Saturday, August 19th, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This is the last Demo Debris Day for 2017.

We would like to remind residents that old paint can be recycled at drop-off sites throughout Maine through PaintCare.  To search for the nearest drop-off site near you, go to www.paincare.org or call the hotline at 855-724-6809.   All brands of old house paint, stain, and varnish are accepted in containers of 5 gallons or less as long as they are labeled and leak-free.  There are some paints that cannot be accepted, such as marine and auto paint.  A complete list is available on the PaintCare website or in a brochure available at the Town Office, or you can check the town website @ www.searsmont.com.

Tax bills were mailed last week.  Courtesy copies have been sent to any escrow holders that we are aware of.  You have to tell us if you have an escrow - as not all mortgages do.  It is the responsibility of the homeowner to make sure that his/her escrow company has a copy of the bill, if needed.  The commitment book is available on the Searsmont website.  The tax rate remains the same this year:  A mil rate of 20.5.  Residents with homestead exemptions may see a slight tax decrease due to the increased homestead allowance.  As always, please contact the Town Office if you have any questions.

Tax payments can be made online via credit card at the town website @ www.townofsearsmont.com.  A credit card service fee of 2.5% of the total will be charged for these transactions.  You can also pay by mail.  Please include the property account number and a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt.

Roof replacement has started on the Searsmont Community Building, and parking is not allowed in the row closest to the building during the process.  Please observe the no parking signs.

Searsmont Town Library

On July 22nd, the 28th annual Searsmont Town Library Book and Bake Sale was successfully completed.  This yearly fundraise supports the library's books and programs for the year.

The event, which includes a Grandma's Attic jumble sale, bake sale, and Silent Auction, could not happen without the tireless work of many volunteers.  On behalf of the Trustees of the Library (Carol Browning, Susan Olson, Glenn Ritch, Joyce Sirota, Margo Thurston, Geri Winslow) and the Friends of the Searsmont Town Library, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all who attended, baked, brought items for Grandma's Attic, and donated items or gift certificates for the Silent Auction.  And, most particularly, we thank the folks who helped set-up, sort and re-package the books.  These include: Christopher Ames, Chris Brinn, Elsa Chapin, Larry Cunningham, Constance Delio, Jan Geller, Paula Hanson, Jana Herbener, Kathy Hoey, Vicky Johnson, Dan Kennedy, Barbara Jean LaRoache, Bill Leavenworth, Hunter Loring, Claudia Luchetti, Contessa Mancini, Diane Marceau, Cathy McGahan, Cooper Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Jeff Olson, Carol Robbins, Mickey Sirota, Meredith Short, Sharon Soule, David Sprowl, Leslie Thomas, Jon Thurston, Jean Wakem, Ashley Warton, Sandie Weagle, Lesa Weggler, Tom Winslow, Kristian Winslow, Karen Withee.
