Town Office

The Town Office will have special hours on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.  Open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Closed from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for staff training.  The Town Office will be closed Thursday, November 23rd, in observance of Thanksgiving.

Did you know?   “Registration plates issued by the Secretary of State continue to be the property of the State.  Registrants should be encouraged to return plates that are no longer being used or when another plate number is issued,” this is from a Motor Vehicle memo to municipal agents.  We find most people are unaware of this information and are unsure of what to do with their old plates.  Please bring them into the town office, and we will return them to Motor Vehicle.

We all know snow is coming, so prepare your mailbox now to give it the best chance at surviving this winter unscathed.  Damaged mailboxes are a common cause of complaint after winter storms.  Municipalities are NOT legally liable for damage done to mailboxes.  Most damage is done by the wing of a snowplow, the velocity of the snow coming off the plow, whiteout conditions, and blowing, drifting snow.

Tips to help avoid damaged mailboxes include:  Suspending the mailbox from an extended arm type of post with at least 42 inches of clearance between the mailbox and the grade; placing reflective material on the side of the mailbox and the mailbox post.  (Reflective material is available at the Town Office.)  Bear in mind, most mailboxes are in the legal right-of-way and are subject to possible damage.

Searsmont Town Library

The annual meeting of The Friends of the Searsmont Town Library will be held on Thursday, November 16th, at 6 p.m. at the Library.  We urge all supporters of the Library to attend.
