Town Office

Summer hours at the Transfer Station start on June 6th.  The Transfer Station will be open on Wednesdays from 3 – 6 p.m. for the months of June, July and August.  The next Demo Debris Day is August 18th, 2018.

The Transfer Station attendants again remind residents that STYROFOAM IS NOT RECYCLABLE.  This is a chronic problem at the Transfer Station, as Styrofoam contaminates recyclable loads.  Please remove Styrofoam before disposing of cardboard, and avoid putting it in the recycle bins.

The Cemetery Committee reminds residents and family members that decorations on grave sites in the cemeteries must be removed when they become damaged or unsightly.

ACO Robin reminds residents that as the weather starts to warm up – finally – don’t forget about the safety of your animals if they travel with you in your car.  While the temperature outside might be a comfortable 78°, it can be 118° or more in your car – a potentially life threatening situation for an animal that only becomes greater as the hot and hazy days of summer arrive.

The Town Office will be closed on Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day.

The annual Memorial Day Parade begins at 9 a.m. from the Community Building to the Post Office.  Remember that roads along the Parade Route – Route 131 (Main Street), Woodman’s Mill Rood, New England Road, Moody Mountain Road, and Muzzy Ridge Road will be closed at their intersections with Main Street at 8:30 a.m.  Please use alternate routes.

An election is looming.  On June 12th voters will go to the polls to vote 2 – 3 ballots, depending on your political affiliation:  Party primary ballots – Democrats and Republican party members only.  For everyone else, a state referendum and the RSU #71 School Budget Absentee Ballots are available in the Town Office from now until June 7th.  If you wish to participate in the primary, you must be an enrolled member of that party.  An “un-enrolled” voter can enroll at any time and participate in the primary.  Those who wish to change party affiliation must do so more than 15 days before election day to be able to participate in the primary of their new party; that deadline is May 24th.  Also, all voter registrations must be done in person after May 22nd.   The primary ballots this year will have some races that are ranked choice voting.  For more information on ranked choice voting, the Secretary of State has information and a video at  The Secretary of State will also do a presentation and answer questions on Facebook Live on Thursday, May 24th, at 6 p.m.  There are also links to RCV information on the Town website at
