There is a recycling opportunity coming up on September 22nd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It is sponsored by the Belfast Rotary, and will be held in the parking lot of the Belfast Public Works Department.  They will be collecting electronic waste (computers, TVs, small appliances, etc.) as well as personal documents for shredding and unwanted medications for disposal.  The shredding service is available to personal users only (no commercial/business documents), and is limited to five (2’ x 1’ x 1’) file boxes per person.  Staples, paperclips, and small binder clips do not need to be removed.  All shredding will be done on site.  Visit www.belfastrotary.org or call Doug Smith at 338-3704 for more information.

The Waldo County Humane Society has scheduled fall rabies clinics.  These clinics are free to Waldo County residents, though donations are gratefully accepted.  The cost is $7 per shot for anyone who is not a Waldo County resident.  You must bring proof of previous rabies vaccination to get a three-year certificate.  The next clinic is Saturday, September 8th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Freedom Fire Station.  Dogs must be on a leash and under the owners control at all times; cats must be in secure carriers.  A second clinic is scheduled for Saturday, October 20th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Brooks Fire Department.

Property tax due date is September 30th.  Tax payments can be made on the Town website, www.townofsearsmont.com, via credit card.  A credit card service fee of 2.5% of the total will be charged for these transactions.  You can also pay by mail.  Please include property account number and a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt.

The Transfer Station is no longer open on Wednesdays. Saturday hours continue to be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The next election is November 6, 2018, and will include several candidate races, and six referendum questions.  Absentee ballots are not yet available, but you can submit a request for an absentee ballot, and one will be mailed to you as soon as they are available.  Requests may be made online using the link on the announcement page of www.searsmont.com; or come into the Town Office to complete and application.
