Town Office

The next and final Demo Debris Day for this year at the Searsmont Transfer Station is Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It’s that time again. Tax bills went out this week. We wanted to make sure they didn’t get overlooked, so this year they are blue. Like Santa, we made our list and checked it twice to make sure nobody got left out. So, if you don’t get yours by next week, please contact us for a replacement.

Courtesy copies have been sent to any escrow holders that we are aware of. (You have to tell us if you have an escrow, as not all mortgages do.) It is ultimately the responsibility of the homeowner to make sure that their escrow company has a copy of the bill, if needed.

The commitment book will also be available on the Searsmont website. The tax rate remains the same this year, a mil rate of 20.5. As always, please contact the Town Office if you have any questions.

Searsmont Town Library

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m., the Environmental Health Strategy Center invites the Searsmont community to a brief presentation about arsenic in Maine well water, with a Q&A to follow.

The presentation, which will take place in the library, will cover well testing, the dangers of arsenic, and steps to take if remediation is necessary. Subsidized test kits will be available at the presentation, as well as an abundance of refreshments.

Don’t get your water from a private well? This event is still for you! Come learn about how you can help in the EHSC’s efforts to ensure safe drinking water for all Mainers.

The Environmental Health Strategy Center is a Maine-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works for a world where all people are healthy and thriving in a safe environment. The EHSC believes everyone deserves access to safe food and drinking water, and toxic-free, climate-friendly products.

Annual Lobster Dinner

Searsmont United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Lobster Feed on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. (or until sold out). The cost is $15 for full dinner, which includes lobster, corn, dessert and a beverage; $10 for lobster only; $25 for full dinner with two lobsters. Eat in or take out. Reservations are recommended. To make a reservation, please call 589-3059.
