Rabies clinics

The Waldo County Humane Society is sponsoring another free rabies clinic on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Burnham Municipal Building, 247 Horseback Road. Dr. Sarah Tomalty of Little River Veterinary Hospital will administer the shots.

Rabies shots are free to animal owners in Waldo County. Pets from other counties are welcome to come for shots for a fee of $7. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Please bring all animals on leashes or in portable pet carriers. It is also important to bring proof of a previous rabies shot so your pet can receive a three-year certificate.

There is also a rabies clinic at the Appleton Fire Department on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost for this clinic is $12 per shot. Nail trimming will also be available for $10. Proceeds benefit the Appleton Fire Department.

Town Office

With winter comes inclement weather. Please call the Town Office at 342-5411 on “iffy” weather days to verify the office is open, or check the website at searsmont.com for updates. Closures are also posted on WLBZ2.

Author talk

Searsmont Town Library hosts Gerry Boyle, author of Jack McMorrow mystery novels, on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Boyle will talk about his craft and read from his work at the library.

The Library Book Group just finished reading Boyle’s “Damaged Goods,” one in a series of his Jack McMorrow mysteries set in Maine. Landmarks in the novel are familiar to residents of Waldo County.

The library received a $900 grant from the Rudman Library Trust of the Maine Community Foundation to promote the work of Maine mystery and crime writers with “Whodunnit: A Maine-Made Mysterious Library Project.”

The grant allows the library to buy dozens of new mysteries, subscribe to a mystery/crime fiction magazine or two, and invite authors to visit the library.

Admission to Boyle’s talk is free. For more information, call the library at 342-5549, or email stlme@searsmont.lib.me.us.
