Brierley Benefit

During the early morning hours of July 29, the Brierley Farm on Route 3 in Searsmont caught fire and burned. The fire caused such extensive damage that the house was a total loss. This property was operated as a dairy farm for over 100 years, most recently by Bruce and Harriet Brierley.

Many people know Bruce Brierley because he has been a selectman for the town of Searsmont for 30 years. Bruce had turned the farm over to his daughter Kandace Niles and her fiancé who plan to continue farming on the property. The couple was in the process of renovating the house and barn when the fire took place. Tragically, Kandace was in the process, but had not finalized, getting insurance on the property at the time of the fire.

In an effort to support the Brierley family, a benefit supper and auction is planned to help rebuild. David Marceau, selectman for the town of Searsmont, is organizing the supper and auction for the Brierley family.

The supper and auction are planned for Saturday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. at the new Searsmont Fire station. Anyone willing to help with preparing food or donating money or items to the Brierley family can contact David Marceau at 505-5131 or send him an email at david.marceau@fairpoint.net.
