Belfast — Laurie Cox of Searsmont has won the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast's raffle for "Dinner Anywhere in the World."

According to an announcement from the church, Cox purchased the ticket from volunteer Ivy Lobato at the June Fourth Friday Art Walk in downtown Belfast. The winning ticket was drawn during the hospitality hour after church services June 24.

The prize includes round-trip airfare for Laurie and Joel Cox, two nights' lodging, and the tab for their supper anywhere in the world (the prize is capped at $5,000).

“I was just making a donation to a good cause!” Laurie told raffle organizer Anna Wood-Cox when she learned of her win. Cox has not yet decided on a destination, but is considering Ireland or Bermuda.

The raffle raised over $7,000 toward renovations of the historic church on Miller Street. Plans are underway to repeat the raffle in July 2019. For more information on the church renovation, go to
