Searsport — There were a lot of smiles in the Searsport Elementary School gym Monday as Principal Larry Clement announced the prizes for achieving sixth place and an honorable mention in this year's WinterKids Winter Games 2018!

Executive Director Julie Mulkern and Program Director Marion Doyle of WinterKids presented the school with 15 pairs of snowshoes and 10 new sleds for their efforts in this challenge.

For her dedication and involvement, third-grade teacher and coordinator Amy Hafford received a Coach's Award from Principal Clement.

"On behalf of all teachers and students ... thank you," Clement said.

Students completed challenges in physical activity, nutrition and family involvement, and the games culminated with a winter carnival at school. A musical presentation showed students engaged in and enjoying the four parts of the program.

WinterKids is a nonprofit organization that helps children develop healthy lifelong habits through education and enjoyable outdoor winter activity.
