Searsport, Islesboro 2OT battle highlights pitch games

Mustang boys net 12th win, Viking boys dispatch Golden Bucks

Belfast, Searsport, Islesboro and Mount View were in search of late-season victories on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 10-11 as those Waldo County high school soccer squads battled on the pitch.

On the boys side Oct. 11, Searsport posted a 2-1 win over Bucksport and Mount View a 2-1 win over John Bapst of Bangor.

On the girls side, Mount View dropped a 2-1 loss to John Bapst of Bangor.

On the boys side Oct. 10, the Mustangs posted a 1-0 win over Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, while Searsport and Islesboro battled to a 3-3, double-overtime tie. The Lions also fell to Mount Desert Island 13-0.

On the girls side, Bucksport netted a 3-0 win over the Vikings, while the Lions fell to the Trojans.

Boys soccer

Searsport 2, Bucksport 1

At Bucksport Oct. 11, Shawn Dakin creased the net with the game-winner with 27 second remaining to give the Vikings a big win over the Golden Bucks. The two squads were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Liam MacMillan added a goal for Searsport, while Tanner Stegner scored for Bucksport.

Ben Powell made 11 saves on 12 shots in net for the Vikings, while Christian Chase-Hurd made four saves on six shots for the Golden Bucks.

MacMillan received a throw-in and slipped a centering pass to Dakin inside the Bucksport penalty area. Dakin beat the keeper to the 50-50 ball and was partially deflected by Chase-Hurd, but the ball carried through and into the net to ultimately win the game for Searsport.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D South, Searsport (3-6-3, 36.1340 points) is ninth, while Greenville (11-1-1, 103.6480 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 2, John Bapst 1

At Thorndike Oct. 11, the Mustangs doubled up the visiting Crusaders. The two teams were scoreless at halftime.

Cassidy Pound and Matt Overlock each scored for Mount View, while Sean Adams creased the net for John Bapst.

Max Tomlin made 12 saves on 13 shots for the Mustangs, while Alec Gagnon made 27 of 29 shots for the Crusaders.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (12-1, 103.8265 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Searsport 3, Islesboro 3 (2OT)

At Searsport Oct. 10, the Vikings and Eagles played to a stalemate after two 40-minute halves and two five-minute overtimes. The squads were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Connor Kneeland, Liam MacMillan and Aaron Wiley netted goals for Searsport, while Charlie Jagger, Patrick Kehoe and Finn Gibson creased the net for Islesboro. MacMillan also had two assists for the Vikings.

Searsport held a 23-9 edge in shots — including a 14-6 advantage in shots on frame — while both teams attempted three corner kicks.

Ben Powell made five saves in net for the Vikings, while the Eagles goalie, whose name was unavailable, made 11 saves.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D South, Islesboro (3-3-3, 36.1648 points) is eighth, while Greenville (11-1-1, 103.6480 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 1, Foxcroft Academy 0

At Dover-Foxcroft Oct. 10, the Mustangs of Thorndike blanked the host Ponies. The squads were scoreless at halftime.

Noah Oathout scored, on an assist from Elijah Allen, with 21:01 left in regulation for Mount View.

Max Tomlin made nine saves on 10 shots in goal for Mount View, while Lucas Ames made 11 saves on 15 shots in goal for Dover-Foxcroft.

Girls soccer

Searsport 3, Dexter 2

At Searsport Oct. 12, the Vikings netted a one-goal victory over the Tigers in their regular-season finale. Searsport led 2-1 at halftime.

Makenzie Alley, Ashten Wells and Sarah Gent each scored in the win for Searsport, while Alley added an assist. Peyton Grant and Danielle Cummings each scored in the loss for Dexter.

Brooklynn Alberts made 15 saves on 21 shots for the Vikings, while Addyson Herrick made six saves on 10 shots for the Tigers.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D South, Searsport (7-7, 77.8061 points) is third, while Greenville (9-3-1, 94.0051 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

John Bapst 2, Mount View 1

At Orono Oct. 11, the Crusaders doubled up the visiting Mustangs. The two teams were scoreless at halftime.

Taylor Hodgdon scored the lone goal of the game for Mount View, while Tia Zephir and Eilidh Sidaway each scored in the win for John Bapst.

Shala Davis made seven saves on 11 shots for the Mustangs, while Kayla Massey made six saves on nine shots for the Crusaders.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (9-4, 60.6633 points) is eighth, while Caribou (11-1, 124.0816 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Bucksport 3, Searsport 0

At Bucksport Oct. 10, the Golden Bucks blanked the visiting Vikings. Bucksport led 2-0 at halftime.

Makenzie Smith and Abby Foss scored first-half goals, while Darian Jellison scored in the second half for the Golden Bucks.

Brooklynn Alberts and Abby Stemp made 10 saves on 15 shots in goal for Searsport, while Kaylee Knowles made eight saves on 12 shots in net for Bucksport.
