Searsport nails down shot-in-arm home victory over GSA

Vikings continue to work to keep themselves in playoff contention

Searsport — The Searsport girls basketball team, which continues to play its way into the Class C North playoff picture, got the shot in the arm it needed on Wednesday night, Jan. 8 as the Vikings netted a 43-39 home victory over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Searsport jumped to an early lead and kept the visitors at arms-length throughout the game, as the Vikings led 11-4, 16-12 and 31-24 at the quarter breaks in the exciting high school court affair.

Makenzie Alley pumped in 19 points to lead the Vikings, while Kyla Perkins added 11; Abby Stemp, eight; Abby Astbury, three; and Emma Spiegel, two.

Evelyn Dagan tossed in 15 points to pace the Eagles, while Vanessa Sherwood added seven; Amanda Door and Sophia Biggie, six; and Jaiden Dennison, five.

Searsport finished 17-of-37 (46 percent) from the free-throw line, while George Stevens Academy was a perfect 4-of-4 (100 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Searsport (3-7, 6.1111 points) is 13th, while Stearns of Millinocket (11-0, 50.2469 points) is first in the 20-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
