Thursday, July 27 at 7 pm - The Gillchrest Papers Book Talk and Signing with Author Renny Stackpole at Penobscot Marine Museum. PMM will host Renny Stackpole, author and PMM Director Emeritus. Stackpole returns to Penobscot Marine Museum to share his latest research, which he has just published in the book The Gillchrest Papers. Tucked away in his attic was the source of his research, the family letters and business papers of the Gillchrests, a Thomaston, Maine seafaring family who built, managed, and sailed ships to distant ports around the world from 1830-1870. Theirs were typical of the experiences of many seafaring families in the Midcoast in that time. The talk is free and will be held at Penobscot Marine Museum's Visitor Center at 2 Church St. in Searsport, Maine. Copies of The Gillchrest Papers will be available for purchase.

Friends of Sears Island to Host Yoga on the Beach with Missy Hatch

Join Friends of Sears Island for yoga on the beach with Missy Hatch, Friday, July 28th from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Using the beach environment, Missy will engage participants in a lighthearted exploration of movement and stretching, taking advantage of whatever the natural world has to offer for support. This class is for anyone able to walk on the beach. It will be geared for adults but attentive children are also welcome. Missy Hatch has been teaching yoga since 1989, and enjoys hiking and being outside. No matter the surroundings, there are always stretches that can be done; being unconventional is the fun part.

This event is free and open to the public. Sears Island is on Sears Island Road off Route 1 just east of Searsport. Participants should park along the causeway at the end of the road and meet at the kiosk near the island gate by 10 a.m. Please wear comfortable clothing, and bring a beach towel and water. Please no pets for this event. For more information and updates in the event of inclement weather, visit www.friendsofsearsisland.org, www.facebook.com/friendsofsearsisland, or call Ashley at 207-975-3878.

Feel free to pass this on to interested people.
