AUGUSTA - In respect for the victims of the horrific shootings in in Sutherland Springs, Texas, which took the lives of more than 25 innocent people while they were attending church, Governor Paul R. LePage has directed all United States flags and State of Maine flags to be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset, November 9, 2017.

"Ann and I are incredibly shocked and saddened by the senseless and unprovoked shootings in Texas," said Governor LePage. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the innocent victims and the families who have been devastated by this horrific act of violence."

President Donald J. Trump issued a proclamation today directing flags to half-staff as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless act of violence perpetrated in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Tuesday, November 7, starting at 7 p.m., the regular meeting of the Selectmen will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

Tuesday, November 7, the Public Safety building will be opened for voting from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. I will send you the results of the Searsport vote.

On Thursday November 9 at 9:00AM RSU#20 Schools will be holding a Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony in the Searsport District Middle High School Gymnasium. Students in grades K-12 will give a presentation honoring veterans and their service to our country. RSU#20 staff and students would like to invite all local veterans to this special ceremony. Starting at 8:30AM in the SDMHS Cafeteria, coffee and pastries will be served to veterans attending the ceremony. Questions may be directed to Searsport Elementary School - 548-2317 or

On Friday, November 10, 5PM, Searsport First Congregational Church, 8 Church Street, will be doing a Beef Stew Dinner to benefit the church’s Lift (elevator) Project to increase community access to church facilities. In addition to stew, there will be biscuits, pickles, and homemade gingerbread with whipped cream. Cost is $8 per person, $4 under 12 years old. The next day is Veterans day, so in honor and much gratitude to all of our Veterans, all Veterans may eat for free.

Saturday, November 11, Anglers will be serving free meals to all veterans as they have done in the past.

Saturday, November 11, the United Methodist Church will be holding a Ham Supper with all the trimmings. The supper will run from 4:30 until 6 p.m.
