On Monday, April 9, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Planning Board will hold their regular meeting in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

The Searsport Historical Society will hold its April meeting on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 pm in Curtis Hall on Church Street in Searsport. Our guest speaker will be Peter Dalton, an expert in Civil War history, who has published several books and articles about the Civil War. His program is titled "Searsport and the Shenandoah Valley." He will be focusing on people from Searsport who fought in that war. The meeting will be followed by a social time with refreshment and the public is invited to attend. No admission fee.

Wednesday, April 11, starting at 4 p.m., the 175th Anniversary Committee will hold their meeting in Union Hall.

Wednesday, April 11, starting at 5 p.m., a Comprehensive Planning Workshop will be held in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

On Friday, April 13, from 5 until 7 p.m., there will be a benefit Mexican dinner at the First Congregational Church. The menu will consist of a taco bar, rice and beans, chili, cornbread, drinks and Mexican nachos with ice cream. There will also be a silent auction sponsored by local businesses.

Cost is by donation for H.U.S.H., Help Us Stop Hunger for school children.

Carver Memorial Library will be hosting our monthly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Storytimes Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. and Thursday, April 19, at 3:30 p.m. This month's theme is library and information science in honor of National Library Week (April 8-14). Activities include folding your own book, a Dewey scavenger hunt, and learning the basics of coding with the Code-a-pillar! Recommended for ages 4-11 and their caregivers. The Overcomer's Christian Fellowship at 11 Frankfort Road in North Searsport is hosting a concert by Heaven's Blend. This group of three singing pastors has recently reunited and they sing gospel music. It is a free concert. The church will provide light refreshments. It will be on Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m.

Friends of Sears Island invites you to join us for a fundraising dinner at Nautilus Seafood & Grill in Belfast, Wednesday, April 25, from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal, and Nautilus will graciously donate 10 percent of your tab to Friends of Sears Island to support conservation and education programs. This is a great opportunity to support a local business and a local nonprofit!

The Brooks Ladies Fellowship will be hosting their annual Antique and Craft Fair, June 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refreshments available for purchase. There are still a few inside tables available to rent at $10 per table, limit two per vendor. Contact Karen at 722-3056 or for more details. All proceeds help to fund educational scholarships.

Searsport Elementary School is preparing for kindergarten screening May 3 and 4 for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, please call 548-2317 to schedule an appointment and arrange to pick up a registration packet.

During the month of March the Ambulance responded to 57 calls for service. They had one inter-facility transfer and four paramedic intercepts.

The Fire Department responded to three calls for service and issued 14 burn permits.

The Searsport Police Department received 211 calls for service. April 28 will be the annual spring drug take-back day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the public safety building.

Code Enforcement has been working with two different developers on subdivision applications.
