Searsport news

Jun 27, 2020

The time has come for us say goodbye with sincere thanks to Dick Desmarais, our longtime Searsport town columnist. Dick has kept his finger on the pulse of goings-on in Searsport for more years then he or we can remember; his "Radio Searsport" moniker is well-known to many in town as the purveyor of breaking news, town business and special events.

Thank you, Dick. You've done a tremendous job for the town, its people, and The Republican Journal, and we are very grateful.

And we now need a town columnist who can pick up where Dick has left off. If you are interested in helping our readers stay abreast of Searsport news and events by writing a weekly column, please contact Carolyn Zachary, assistant editor, at 342-5565 or

A man who has offered his talents to the betterment of his community and with a smile. Thanks for all you have done, and thanks from all those you have inspired.

Many thanks to you, Dick, for all you have done for the Searsport community since your arrival many years ago.  It took you only minutes to jump in and begin contributing wherever you were needed.  Maine benefits greatly from people like you and your lovely wife who move here and become involved in their new town.  You are one of the best examples of "people from away" who make Maine their new home.  Best wishes to you as you downsize your commitments.
