What are those tracks in my yard?

Time to find out! Friends of Sears Island and Carver Memorial Library will co-sponsor a live Zoom program on just that. On Tuesday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. Sandra Mitchell, a naturalist and certified wildlife Cyber Tracker will present “Learning to Read Tracks, and Using Them to Enter the Secret Lives of Wild Animals.”

Winter is pretty quiet here in Searsport, but snow cover is an excellent time to find out what species are traveling through your yard and in the woods of Maine. She’ll also use tools such as scat, burrows and nests to trace their winter habits.

It may not tell you anything about the tracks left by a size 12 L.L. Bean boot, but it certainly will be an interesting discussion in the comfort and warmth of your computer room!

Reminder: it’s tax time

There is free tax preparation help at the Searsport Community Building (formerly the Lions Club) at 42 Prospect St. from Feb. 17 to April 7. The tax prep is sponsored by AARP for low to middle income taxpayers and will require two visits, one to take in documents and one to deliver the finished return.

Waldo reads together!

Many people in Waldo County are reading Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Nickel Boys” for a group discussion for anyone age 14 and up. The goal is to alleviate some social isolation and stimulate conversations about social justice and diversity.
