Searsport Police Department reported the following recent activity:

Sept. 1

Charlie Chu, 46, of New York, fell asleep while traveling north on Route 1 at around at 4 p.m.  The crashed occurred near the intersection of Route 1 and Reservoir Street. Officer Gillway said Chu's vehicle, a 2010 Honda van, left the opposite side of the roadway and struck a Central Maine Power pole on a curve. The vehicle had extensive damage and the pole needed to be replaced. Passenger Suilan Chu, 72, was transported to the hospital with neck pain and a possible hand injury. Chu's three children, ranging in age from 9 to 17 were not injured. Searsport Fire Department was called for traffic control while CMP replaced the pole.

Sept. 4

Sgt. Rolerson responded to a two-vehicle rear-end crash on Route 1 near the intersection of Old Route 1. A 2012 GMC pickup operated by Ernest Waterman, 48, of New York, was stopped for construction when he was struck from behind. The second vehicle was a 2012 Honda sedan operated by Gabrial Poulin, 17, of Stockton Springs. Neither Waterman or his passenger were injured. Both vehicles were able to be driven away and the total damages were in excess of $1,500.
