Searsport — Searsport police are warning residents to be aware of a telephone scam that was  reported recently.

Police Chief Dick LaHaye said residents have reported receiving a call from their own telephone number and, when they answer, they are asked to verify their credit card information. LaHaye said repeated calls will be made by the individuals seeking to obtain the credit card information if no one answers the phone.

LaHaye said anyone who receives such a phone call should contact the Searsport Police Department at 548-2304.
