Searsport runners compete in handful of early-season races

Clapp leads Viking teams with strong overall finishes

Searsport — Searsport cross-country runners have participated in a handful of high school meets thus far on the fall season, and the teams have been led by Holden Clapp, who usually finishes among the top 10.

Searsport participated in the Seacoast Invitational on Sept. 22 at Sumner in East Sullivan.

The boys team scores were: Calais 49, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 52, Lee Academy 80, Washington Academy of East Machias 102, Machias 151, Searsport 159, Bucksport 165 and Sumner 169.

The girls team scores were: George Stevens Academy 22, Narraguagus 62, Shead of Eastport 68, Washington Academy 103 and Machias 105. Searsport did not have five runners to record a team score.

The SDHS boys individual results were: 9, Clapp, 19:28; 40, Colby Johnson, 22:52; 42, Steven Courtney, 23:02; 47, Devin Fairbrother, 23:32; 53, Kevin Moreau, 24:00; and 82, William Bradley, 33:27.

The SDHS girls individual result was: 23, Emma Spiegel, 28:27.

On Sept. 15, the Vikings participated in a meet at Washington Academy in East Machias.

The boys team scores were: Ellsworth 37, George Stevens Academy 124, Searsport 124, Bucksport 146 and Sumner 148.

The girls team scores were: George Stevens Academy 21 and Ellsworth 39. Searsport had no score.

The SDHS boys individual results were: 6, Clapp, 19:06.55; 21, Courtney, 21:47.91; 38, Johnson, 24:18.21; 41, Fairbrother, 25:03.94; and 66, Bradley, 35:31.98.

No Searsport girls participated in this meet.

On Sept. 9, Searsport participated in the Bucksport Invitational.

The boys varsity team scores were Orono 21, George Stevens Academy 59, Lee Academy 71, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln 80, Machias 132 and Bucksport 158.

The boys jayvee team scores were: Orono 40, Central of East Corinth 47, George Stevens Academy 61 and Lee Academy 66.

The girls varsity team scores were: Orono 22, George Stevens Academy 51, Mattanawcook Academy 77 and Narraguagus of Harrington 91.

The girls jayvee team scores were: Orono 15 and Machias 50.

Searsport did not have enough runners to record a team score at any level.

The SDHS boys individual varsity results were: 9, Clapp, 18:26; and 44, Fairbrother, 23:59.

The SDHS boys individual jayvee results were: 11, Moreau, 22:08; and 26, Bradley, 29:43.

The SDHS girls individual jayvee result was: 25, Samantha Perkins, 37:39.
