Searsport — Makenzie Alley, a senior at Searsport District High School, has been selected to receive the 2021 Principal's Award, Principal Joshua Toothaker announced today.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

“Makenzie is the gold standard at SDHS for hard work and dedication. Inside the classroom Makenzie has taken on a rigorous course load here and has transitioned to take a majority of her classes through college programs in the state to continually challenge herself academically.

“Outside the classroom she has established herself as a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. Being a 1,000-point scorer and a selection for Maine McDonald’s All-Star Team has placed her clearly on the state map for excellence in athletics as well.”  Toothaker said.

Makenzie Alley, Joshua Toothaker and other award winners and their principals will participate in a Live Virtual Scholarship Drawing Event Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. Ten $1,000 scholarships will be drawn in the names of former Maine principals and MPA executive directors Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
