Searsport students open ‘The Jungle Book’

Searsport — Everyone is invited to take a break from Maine’s cold winter and step into the tropical rainforest with Searsport Elementary and Middle schools’ production of “The Jungle Book.”

This shorter adaptation, written and directed by Jessica Fuller, is aimed at audiences of all ages and includes the easily recognizable Disney lyrics and music written and arranged by Terry Gilkyson, Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Performances will be Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, at 6 p.m.; and a matinee performance Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. in the cafetorium of Searsport District Middle/High School, 24 Mortland Road. More than 40 students from the elementary and middle school have worked on putting the production together over the last three months, and actors from the high school also will be making cameos throughout the performances. This show promises to be a delightful journey as the characters learn to work together, make new friends and understand the importance of family.

The cast features Bethany West as Young Mowgli and Dominic Foster as Older Mowgli; Josephine Bragdon as Young Myra and Ava Knowles as Older Myra; Ryker Tower as Baloo; Oceana Pacholski-Proctor as Shere Khan; Grace Koelbl as Kaa; Emma Spiegel as Bagheera; Lily Stratton as Colonel Hathi; Casey Snow as King Louie; Devlin Jones as Jackal/Elephant Brigade/Wolf Dad/Mowgli's Dad; Ashley Harriman as Village Mother/Narrator; Felicia Stanhope as Daughter in Village/Vulture; Makenzie Alley as Mowgli’s Mom/ Mom/Elephant Brigade; and Adriana Lang as Elder Wolf/Elephant Brigade.

The Elephant Brigade is completed by Destiny Hebert and Taylor Paradise, with the Vultures filled out by Brookelyn Knowles, Matteson Burbelo, Hattie Gibbs. The Monkeys are played by Madison Resh, Zoe Bennett, Abby Brown, Stephanie Resh and Brianna Fairbrother; the Wolf Pack includes Braeden Macarthur, Eddie Mylen, Clara Havard and Faith Tozier; and Narrators/Villagers are played by Jade McAvoy, Maggie Knowles and Laura Worman.
