Monday, Oct. 8, the Town Office will be closed for Columbus Day.

Also Monday, Oct. 8, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Planning Board will hold its regular meeting in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, starting at 7 p.m., the North Station Committee will meet in the Dan Rich Public Safety Building.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, starting at 7 p.m., the Searsport Historical Society will meet at the Congregational Church Vestry on Church Street. The guest speaker this month will be Lucinda Hathaway, author of two books, one of which features Searsport as its setting. Hathaway's books are for upper elementary age children, but the content will excite persons of any age who like a good yarn, especially if one of them actually takes place in their own hometown.

An energetic and engaging speaker, Ms. Hathaway will conclude her talk with questions and answers and a book-signing. Whether you are looking for a gift for a youngster in your life, or just looking for a good read cleverly woven with historic information, Lucinda Hathaway's books fit the bill. Ms Hathaway is looking forward to introducing them to a Searsport audience. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday, Oct. 11, starting at 7 p.m., the Cemetery Committee will meet in the Town Hall.

Tuesday, Oct. 16, starting at 7 p.m., the regular Selectmen's meeting will take place in the Town Hall.

Searsport Town Historian Charlene Knox Farris is compiling a list of men and woman from Searsport who served in the armed forces during World War II. She is working from an old list that has two names that are too faded to read. That part of the list follows:

E_________ M. Cushman, and Eu______ A. Roberts

If you can help by supplying either of these missing names, call 548-2954 and leave a message for Charlene.

The winners of the 2012 "Fall Frenzy" Cribbage Tournament, sponsored by Coastal Coffee House, are Earl and Josh Cushman of Northport. Josh is a first-time winner in a Coastal Coffee cribbage tournament, but his dad, Earl Cushman, previously was the winner of the 2010 "March Madness" Cribbage Tournament.

During the month of September the fire department responded to 12 calls for service and the ambulance responded to 29 calls for service. The Department of Marine Resources agreed to re-open the closed clam flats on the right side of the causeway and public works installed a set of cement steps near the causeway to Sears Island.

Veterans' Day is Nov. 11. The selectmen would like to remind any Searsport resident who has a family member serving in the military that they are eligible for a Blue Star Banner. If you are eligible and would like to receive this banner, contact Town Manager James Gillway (548-6372). If you live elsewhere, contact your local American Legion, as many also have this program.

The Shellfish Management Committee is still looking for volunteers to monitor the clam flats. If interested, call the Town Hall at 548-6372.
