Belfast — Regional School Unit 71 Superintendent Mary Alice McLean reported a second confirmed coronavirus case at Troy Howard Middle School the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 26.

On Jan. 22 she announced a confirmed case at the school and another confirmed case at Belfast Area High School. The latest case at THMS is unrelated to the case announced Jan. 22, she said.

She said there is no evidence of spread through the school, but the seventh grade class will be in remote learning until Feb. 5. Students in the Pathways and TLC programs are exempt from remote learning.

The school district had not had a positive COVID-19 case since November 2020. It is still designated green under the state's reopening standards.

The three new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in the district up to six since the start of school.
