Separate early morning crashes kill three

Source: Waldo County Sheriff's Office Two people in this sedan died the morning of Aug. 12 when the car failed to navigate a turn and crashed into a rock ledge near the Penobscot Narrows Bridge.

Waldo County Sheriff's deputies responded to two separate early morning crashes Aug. 12 that killed three people.

At 1:20 a.m., deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Loggin Road in Frankfort. Driver Michael Butler, 29, of Winterport, the sole occupant, rolled his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release. The crash is still under investigation.

A few hours later, at 5:11 a.m., deputies responded to a crash on Route 1 in Prospect near Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Upon arrival, deputies learned the driver of the sedan failed to negotiate a corner after exiting the bridge. Daniel Huntington, 39, of New Jersey and 37-year-old Sarah Brown of Monroe were found dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. Two other occupants of the vehicle, Alexander Brown, 22, and Roger Brown, 45, both of Prospect, were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

The cause of that crash also is being investigated.
