Sheriff's Office charges man with attempted murder following Belmont stabbing

A man was discovered Jan. 5 in his home with non-life-threatening stab wounds, according to Waldo County Sheriff's Office, and another man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

A female friend of the victim and called 911 for help at 12:40 p.m. after going to check on him.

During the investigation, Waldo County deputies learned the 64-year-old male owner of the Lincolnville Road home had a verbal argument the evening prior with Jetton Whiting, 25, who also was living at the Belmont residence. The victim reported Whiting became upset during the argument and stabbed him numerous times before fleeing the residence.

Deputies searched for Whiting without success until Jan. 6, when deputies responded to an abandoned home in Belmont where Whiting was located and taken into custody.

Whiting has been charged with one count of attempted murder, class A. He remains in custody, with no bail allowed.
