Smith's first leads Belfast in opening races

Winslow — The Belfast cross-country teams started their regular season on the run on Friday, Sept. 1 and one Lion — namely, Ricky Smith — finished ahead of the pack in the high school meet.

Smith finished first among the 54 boys, while the top Belfast girls runner among the 38 finishers was Zoe Deans in 11th.

Erskine Academy's Courtney Paine finished first among the girls in 21:57.

The boys team scores were: Cony of Augusta 41, Erskine Academy 50, Belfast 57, Morse of Bath 83 and Winslow 115. The girls team scores were: Erskine Academy 40, Cony 53, Morse 73, Belfast 81 and Winslow 94.

The individual Belfast boys results were: 1, R. Smith, 19:29; 3, Luke Blow, 20:00; 12, Brendan Moline, 21:07; 18, Eamon Goscinski, 21:59; 23, Joseph Potter, 22:40; 31, Timmy Smith, 24:19; 32, Gary Moline, 24:20; 40, Brian Rollerson, 25:55; 41, Nathaniel Morsey, 26:10; 48, Sawyer Carson, 28:23; 50, Patrick O'Donovan, 29:23; and 54, Samuel Goscinski, 38:12.

The individual Belfast girls results were: 11, Deans, 25:06; 13, Caitlin Maddocks, 26:01; 15, Lillie Mitchell, 26:29; 21, Tara O'Donovan, 28:21; 24, Rowan Walsh, 28:56; 26, Gia Davilla, 29:36; 29, Jordan Kulbe, 30:29; and 38, Erin Hayes, 39:37.
