Spanish Cinema Course with Joellenne Silver

Join us for an advanced-level Spanish course that will focus on analyzing films of Spanish cinema based on the three-act structure. The class will begin with an introduction to the vocabulary of cinema, along with an overview of the basic structure of a screenplay. Students will discuss and debate films with an eye toward their narrative structure and what makes them work or not work. Language acquisition in this context will be in the service of expressing an argument or a concept.

Instructor, Joellenne Silver, was born and raised in the Caribbean on the island of Puerto Rico. She later moved to Spain where she earned a master’s degree in Film Direction. Joellenne currently resides in Maine, which has proven to be a quiet but compelling place to write and develop personal projects. She has taught film and photo workshops in Barcelona and worked at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport.

Potential films include : “El Sur” Victor Erice, Director, “Amantes del Circulo Polar” Julio Medem, Director, 7:35 de la mañana” Nacho Vigalondo, Director
