Spitfire poem first in nation

Karin Spitfire puts her passion where her poetry is.

Belfast — Karin Spitfire’s poem “Liquidation” has won the national first place in the sixth annual Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest, sponsored by WOMR, Provincetown; and WFMR, Orleans, Mass. The win comes with a prize award of $1,000. Marge Piercy was the judge.

Spitfire, past Poet Laureate of Belfast, is the author of “Standing with Trees”; and a chapbook, “Wild Caught.” Her poems have appeared in several online journals and print publications. Spitfire currently is working to release a new volume of poems, “Bearings.”
