St. Peter’s Holy Week & Easter Services and Activities

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church invites everyone to its services during this most important time of the church year. The church is the red-shingled building at 11 White St. in Rockland, by the Public Library, playground and the Rockland Recreation Center.

Sunday (4/14): Palm Sunday, services at 9:00 am and 5:30 pm, liturgy of the palms and reading of the Passion Narrative

Wednesday (4/17): Tenebrae, service at 7:00 pm, a Choral Meditation on Christ’s passion with readings and music. This is a dramatic service as with each section a candle is extinguished and the lights dim until, representing Jesus’ death, we are in complete darkness. (Tenebrae means “shadows” or “darkening”).

Maundy Thursday (4/18): service at 7:00 pm. Holy Eucharist with Foot-Washing, Stripping of the Altar, and Veneration of the Sacrament in The Garden of Repose.

Good Friday (4/19):

• All Day – Self-Directed Stations of the Cross

• 7:00 pm – Good Friday Liturgy with Choral & Instrumental accompaniment. Eucharist from the reserved sacrament

Holy Saturday (4/20): The Great Vigil of Easter, service at 7:45 pm at Nativity Lutheran, 179 Old County Road, Rockport, ME. This service of Holy Eucharist is celebrated with the Lutheran and the Episcopal Churches of the Midcoast area.

Easter Day (4/21): service at 9:00am – Choral Festival Eucharist, followed by the parish Easter Brunch; Easter Egg Hunt at 12 Noon and the Easter Community Dinner at 12:30 pm.

Easter Community Dinner (4/21): Begins at 12:30 pm in the Parish Hall & Parlor hosted by members and friends of Adas Yoshuron Synagogue.
