Thorndike — One of the hottest teams in Class C North, the Mount View field hockey team, continued its recent win streak on Saturday, Sept. 30 as the Mustangs hosted Waterville in the hope of continuing their ascent up the regional playoff ladder.

The Mustangs, ultimately, galloped to their fourth straight victory — after dropping their first six games of the season — with a 2-0 win over the Purple Panthers.

The teams were scoreless at halftime, but the ‘Stangs broke into the scoring column with a goal by Maddy Knowlton, off an assist by Devon Burgess, with 25:35 left in regulation. Macy Fowler added an unassisted insurance score with 8:30 left in the game.

Alexis Bowman made two saves on two shots in the cage for Mount View, while Colby Dangler made nine saves on 11 shots.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Mount View (4-6, 18.2143 points) is fifth, while Winthrop (10-0-1, 89.5918 points) is first in the 10-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
