State seeks nominations for Maine Guide award

Registered Maine Guides are experienced outdoorsmen and women, and each year the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife recognizes a member of the guiding community with the Wilmot (Wiggie) Robinson Legendary Guide Award.

The public is invited to nominate a deserving Registered Maine Guide by completing the nomination form at maine.gov/ifw/docs/LegendaryGuideAwardForm.pdf, and submitting it by Jan. 10.

Criteria for this award are as follows:

Must have been a Registered Maine Guide for 20 years, and actively guiding for at least 10 of those 20 years.

Must pass a criminal background check. Must be a law-abiding citizen with no arrests for committing a crime related to human injury, gun laws or major hunting or fishing violations for 20 years.

Must have engaged in volunteer community service, providing education about safety and survival in the Maine woods, introducing and educating youth about the importance of the ecosystem found in the state of Maine.

Must be active on boards or committees that enhance and promote the importance of Maine's outdoor resources; for example, youth programs, Scouts, conservation education, safety instructor, search-and-rescue volunteer, active in Fish and Game club(s), guide license examiner, etc.

The award will be presented to the recipient at the annual Maine Professional Guides Association banquet.
