Stick playoffs: Lions, Mustangs qualify, Mariners, Windjammers fall short

Belfast, Mount View prepare for quarterfinal playoff encounters Oct. 22

Augusta — The regular season has wrapped for the four Waldo and Knox county high school field hockey teams, as two of those squads turn the page to prepare for the regional playoffs.

Belfast and Mount View of Thorndike made the cut in Class B and Class C North, while Camden Hills of Rockport and Oceanside of Rockland fell short of playoff berths in Class A and Class B North.

The following is a breakdown of the three region:

In Class A North, Camden Hills (4-9-1, 28.7755 points) finished 10th, while Skowhegan (14-0, 199.3878 points) finished first in the 13-team region. The top nine teams qualify for the playoffs, thus, the Windjammers failed to qualify (by the slimmest of margins — 1.2755 points).

In Class B North, Belfast (11-3, 125.8163 points) finished second and Oceanside (4-10, 15.6122 points) 10th. Winslow (12-2, 137.2449 points) finished first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs, thus, the Lions are playoff-bound, while the Mariners failed to qualify.

In a quarterfinal playoff game, No. 2 Belfast will host No. 7 Nokomis of Newport (8-6, 70.1020 points) on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. at Point Lookout in Northport. The Warriors defeated the Lions 2-1 in their lone regular-season game on Sept. 24 in Newport.

In Class C North, Mount View (6-8, 33.6735 points) finished eighth, while Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (13-0, 178.9796 points) will finish first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs, thus, the Mustangs are playoff-bound. The Ponies have one regular-season game to play.

In a quarterfinal playoff game, No. 8 Mount View will play at No. 1 Foxcroft Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. The Mustangs and Ponies did not play each other during the regular season.
