Stockton Springs — A drowsy driver and her passenger escaped serious injury in a Stockton Springs crash Friday, April 6, at about 3:30 p.m.

Jessica Cunningham, 34, of Holden and her 10-year-old daughter were driving north on Route 1, according to State Trooper James Moore, when she suddenly swerved right, left the road and crashed into trees.

According to Moore, there were no tire marks indicating an oncoming vehicle drifting into her lane and, by her own admission, Cunningham was drowsy.

Her Hyundai Accent sustained front-end damage and airbags deployed. Mother and child were taken to Waldo County General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Stockton Springs Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded to the crash, along with the Maine State Police.

No charges were filed at this time.
