The winter so far has been a few messy small storms every few days and it turns to ice overnight. Today it's supposed to get into the 40s and then another storm is due. Most people have been busy inside watching the Pats and all the college football bowl games. I am still waiting for the big snowstorm to hit but I am lucky enough not to have to drive to a job every day.

It's best to have a friend to go with to ensure that you get there. The holidays provide incredible eating and afterward we feel the weight gain.

Winter is the best time for soups and chili. I made white chicken chili the other day and it is so good on a dark winter night.

I saw the eagle do a fly-by of the harbor yesterday morning but I haven't seen many other birds this winter.

Thought for the week: "Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man." — Benjamin Franklin.
