Storytelling workshop, story slam in Hope

Sep 21, 2019
Willy Clafin

Hope — A workshop with professional teller Willy Clafin is offered on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at Sweet Tree Arts, 4 Church St. For teachers, tellers and the curious adult, the workshop is titled "Gargantuan Turquoise Stomping Boots -- How to make up fractured fairy tales."

This workshop teaches an easy method for making up your own original fractured fairy tales. Parodies are fun to make up, and usually a big hit with audiences. Attendees will start by making up a couple of stories as a group, and move on to creating their own original tales. The workshop is co-taught by storyteller Maynard Moose. All are welcome.

A Story Slam, presented by Sweet Tree Arts and hosted by Hope Orchards, 434 Camden Rd., will follow on Saturday, Oct.19, at 7 p.m.

This year's fall theme is "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?," where five local storytellers share five-minute stories on the theme with special guest international storyteller Willy Clafin. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; telling begins at 7 p.m. Complimentary coffee and desserts will be served. Families are welcome, but "Moth"-style stories may contain adult content. The suggested donation is $15, and all proceeds benefit the scholarship fund at Sweet Tree Arts.

Workshop registration and advance slam tickets are available at
