Strung Together, A Fine Old Time on Beautiful Penobscot Bay

The Makers Guild of Maine in Searsport, welcomes all players and listeners who appreciate old time and bluegrass music to a weekend of playing, learning, dancing, and listening with some of the best old-time players in New England. It all starts on Friday, September 13th at 2 pm ending on Sunday the 15th at 2 pm. The weekend is hosted by the Old Time Music Players and Vacationland Bluegrass Jam Camp of Maine and Searsport Shores Ocean Campground.

The weekend includes lots of old time/bluegrass jamming (beginner-advanced), workshops, night/afternoon performances, recording studio, community pizza oven, group song share, dancing, and great food. The Old-Time component will focus on holding guided and open jams for all abilities and age levels, including a youth jam tent. All happening on the shores of the beautiful Penobscot Bay.

Steve Roy and Resa Randolph will be leading the Bluegrass camp. Special guest teacher will be the amazing, multi-instrumentalist Steve Roy.  Master Old Timers including George Fowler, Art Bryan, Nate Paine, Pat Dancen, Jeff Titon, James Hyland, Bill Smith, Emily Jeffries, and Baron Collins-Hill will honor us with their amazing musical talent. The weekend will also feature a concert with Nate Paine and the Strung Together House Band followed by a square dance called by Pat Dancen in the new music barn…plus a do-it -yourself concert/coffee house on Saturday night following the musicians Potluck Supper.

Suggested donation for General Admission Tickets is $60.00 for the weekend which includes admission for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to all performances, jams, workshops, recording studio, and other activities. (not including camping, special workshops, lunch, or private lessons). The Bluegrass workshop for the weekend is an additional $60 donation and you have access to all the other jams, etc’ outside of workshop times. A donation of $10-20 on a sliding scale for the evening concerts/ dance is offered to all guests coming just for the performances. Donations help to cover costs of jam leaders, staff, tents, and food. Extra proceeds will be used for musician scholarships and to help fund the instrument lending project at the Searsport Carver Memorial Library.

Vendors and campground cooks are welcome. Volunteers are needed, and bartering is welcome.

All types of camping will be available including tents, hammocks, RVs, safari, and cabin rentals. Hot showers, picnic table, and fireplace (oceanfront & RV site upgrades available). Discounted camping rates available for participants.

Bring your friends and make new ones while you celebrate American string band music, stories, and the cultures that brought us those traditions.
