BELFAST — August is the last month to catch the unique art by local artists on display at the weekly Belfast Art Market on Fridays at Waterfall Arts. The Belfast Art Market brings a rotating cast of talented local artisans every Friday from June through August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in conjunction with the original Belfast Farmers’ Market (rain or shine).

The local artists who show their work at the art market vary from week to week. Certain vendors, like quilter Nora Flanagan of Belmont, participate in nearly every market throughout the summer season. Others, like basket-weaver Rose Whitehead of Waldo, who packs up all of her work into a trailer hitched to the back of her trike, show their work more sporadically. The mediums range from paintings to pottery to jewelry to photography, and more. The work being sold ranges from traditional to modern — Bridget Matros of Belfast makes one-of-a-kind glow-in-the-dark jewelry. There’s something for everyone at the Belfast Art Market!

Many of the participating artists are from in and around Waldo County, though artists from further flung places (such as Florida and Massachusetts) have also participated in the market this summer. Every week is a surprise. Tourists and locals alike enjoy perusing the booths at this varied and diverse market where artists of all ages and backgrounds come together to share their work with the public. Visitors to the market may find art being sold by their neighbor, their teacher, or their local bartender/server.

Find the market on Facebook for more information.
