Swanville — Police summoned a Swanville man for allegedly failing to stop for a police officer while traveling at a high rate of speed.

Troy S. Applegate, 41, was cited for operating without a license, failure to stop for a police officer, violating condition of release and exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph or more.

The charges stem from a July 8 incident when Cpl. Merl Reed of Waldo County Sheriff's Office was fueling his patrol vehicle and observed Applegate drive by on a motorcycle, Chief Deputy Jason Trundy said.

Reed had recently handled a different incident involving Applegate and knew the man's license was suspended. The corporal stopped fueling his vehicle and began to pursue Applegate, who then allegedly accelerated to put distance between himself and the officer, Trundy said.

It is not known exactly how fast Applegate was traveling but Reed was unable to catch up until Applegate arrived at his residence.
