Photo by: Bob Hanish Here are your duly elected Swanville Republican officers! (above:  l to r) Patty Keyes, Town Chair/Delegate; Peter Caron, State Delegate; JoAn Petersen, Town Secretary/Delegate; Peter Petersen, Delegation Chairman. The Republican Caucus was last Saturday, and it was well attended.  Everyone had an opportunity to hear brief speeches from each of our candidates to state office.  This year Senator Mike Thibodeau will run to keep his seat.  In the House, our candidate is James Gillway from Searsport.  If you are a registered Republican, and would like to attend the State Republican Convention, at the Cross Center in Bangor, as a voting delegate or alternate, call Peter Petersen, 338-2705, for more information.  We would like to get a group together in our town that would like to support responsive state and local government.  If anyone is interested in helping the candidates, please call JoAn or Peter at 338-2705.

Valentine's Dinner

The church celebrated Valentine's Day with a catered dinner, and party games.  The food was very good, and special thanks go out to the ladies who organized and served it, and who presided over the games.  I will never forget a venerable Spaulding having to guess answers to our team's charades!

I was awoken, happily, by a cardinal, though I never saw it.  There is no mistaking the clear loud call of cardinals.

School Withdrawal Events

Stockton Springs is sponsoring two more presentations on the issues in withdrawal and reorganization as it affects us.  Since there are only two meetings left, I am posting the one that is more targeted towards Bucksport.  They will be talking about the same issues, and there's no reason why you can't talk to the speakers about your thoughts on our town if you go.  They will both be held at Stockton Springs Town Hall, in the back of the building.  The first is 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 4th (Bucksport meeting), and the last one, held again for everyone, is for 7 p.m., March 12th.  The group presenting should be thanked for being willing to sponsor the five meetings/hearings they are offering.  It is a lot of work, and it is great to see them make this possible.  We all have very conflicting schedules.  I hope that one of these dates are open for those who haven't had a chance to listen and ask questions.  Dick Desmaris, of Searsport, has given me a DVD of the Searsport hearing, and anyone wishing to see it may contact me and have it to circulate around town.

I am best reached now weekdays at:

J Black Printing (to the right of Perry's Nut House), Belfast, 338-4040.
