The Citadel to honor Carmine Pecorelli

Belfast — Carmine Pecorelli of Belfast, veteran of three wars, has been selected as "Alumnus of the Year" by The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

VFW Post 3108 Operations Manager Jim Roberts announced that Pecorelli is being honored for his work with Wreaths Across America, Honor Flight Maine, Disabled American Veterans, "and of course all the time he puts in on behalf of VFW Post 3108."

"This is a huge honor and has left Carmine very humbled," Roberts wrote on the post's Facebook page.

Pecorelli, VFW post advocate, served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Special Forces. He was on active duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

He will receive his award Oct. 26th during The Citadel's homecoming weekend, and Sen. Michael Thibodeau, R-Waldo, and Rep. Erin Herbig, D-Belfast, will recognize Pecorelli at the end of the Veterans Day parade in Belfast Nov. 11.
