Belfast — The Game Loft will host its annual Pax Britannica program about the origins of World War I at the Boathouse April 26-27. The public is invited to come and see teams of adults and youth become experts in a complex subject from the past that resonates into current politics. Nine teams will try to propel their countries to victory without causing World War I.

On Friday, April 26, the nine teams will host a diplomats' reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Belfast Boathouse. At that time, visitors will be able to meet the teams and discuss power politics as seen through the eyes of middle and high school students and their adult mentors. Young people voluntarily give up their weekend to plunge into the intricacies of history, geography, public speaking, financial record-keeping, planning, and negotiation.

An international buffet of complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be offered, and attendees can expect a special game preview as teams commence the first round of play.

The Pax Britannica game will take place the following day, Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Belfast Boathouse. Teams of students, alumni, and community members will make history by trying to prevent World War I in this complex board game involving resource management, negotiation, and debate. Community members are welcome to visit and cheer on their team.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 338-6447 or email info@thegameloft.org.
